Once again, thanks to everyone that came and special thanks for Goodman Center’s team for leading our volunteer discussion! Noah sent over his slide deck again if you want to take another look.
My biggest takeaway was that there’s a lot of little nudges that help our volunteers feel appreciated and connected. Having a little overlap in the same job duties means the outgoing shift trains and works with the incoming shift for a little bit, ensuring there’s a comfortable place to work, and knowing who to ask for help goes a long way in helping our volunteers feel like their work is appreciated. Also, specificity is key – don’t just ask people to signup for a job title, but have the job description and duties to make it feel approachable and real. It’s the old xkcd comic about assuming familiarity: the organizers spend so much time with it they forgot how much they know.
Our next meeting is on festival logistics at 6 PM Wednesday, October 28th at Breese Stevens Field. Enter via Gate 5 on Mifflin Street, and through the Forward Club is the Premiere Suite where we’ll talk about putting all the pieces together.
The following meeting around food and vendor coordination will be on November 12th, with a location to be finalized shortly.
